The NHS trust, which is behind the Midland Metropolitan Hospital has now been hit by the collapse of Carillion. They have launched a trust to try and find a centre that is going to replace their contractor and they have also put a cap on any bids to try and get the hospital finished. Sandwell and West Birmingham have published a contract notice that calls on any provisional contractors to try and register their interest in taking over the project. They have also pledged that they will share any cost savings.

The CQC has appointed Rosie Benneyworth as their new chief inspector. She is going to be in charge of integrated care and medical services. She is currently a GP from Somerset and she is also the director of the Strategic Clinical Services. She is going to be taking up the roleas the chief inspector in March. Rosie is taking over the job from Steve Field, who has worked the position since the year 2013. Ian Trenholm has commented saying that they are delighted that Rosie is going to be joining them. He has also come out to say that Rosie brings a ton of experience that will be invaluable to the team.

The government really does need to announce a credible solution that is going to address the long-term underfunding that is happening in adult social care right now. A green paper from the Department of Health is expected to land in summer. Those who work in homecare and even private nursing will understand what a vital decision this is.

If you work in homecare or even in private nursing then you will understand how important it is to try and give people the support they need in their later years. With the first intergenerational care home being operated in the UK, it’s safe to say that this is a great move forward. A chorus of nursery rhymes isn’t exactly the first thing that you expect when you walk into an elderly person’s home. The children love it and they dance around. Anna Platman, who is 93 has been a member of the care home for nearly a year. She believes that by having children around, you forget that you are away from your family.

Poor health in the north really is having a major impact on the productivity of the area. This is according to a report that was done from the six universities. The NHSA study has stated that they are doing everything they can to try and create additional funding for the northern economy and that they have also found deep-rooted inequalities in health as well. The Health for Wealth report has stated that the relationship between the healthcare industry and the powerhouse needs to improve and that this will also help to improve regional growth as well.

If you work in private nursing or even in homecare then you will understand more than anyone how annoying it can be to have ghost patients. The giant Capita are going to start their own process of trying to clean out millions of ghost patients from their ghost list. Capita have originally stated that they are going to clear out patients who no longer attend the practice but this was halted early because they faced a ton of criticism from the BMA.

The Home Office is trying to pilot a scheme. This is going to be done with Royal Mail and a ton of local authorities as well. The overall goal is to try and make sure that older people are certainly getting the support that they need to try and combat the loneliness that they experience on a day to day basis. Postal workers will try and call on those who are lonely to take part while they are doing their delivery rounds. They will then ask a set of questions on their device and this is known as being safe and connected. The results will then be analysed and it will also direct the individual to those who might be able to help. The trial is going to take place in Liverpool and even Whitby as well. It is a part of a cross-government scheme and it is going to have a huge impact on mental health.

Elderly people could now be protected under a new law regarding hate crime. This comes as a wide-ranging review. The legal body has been instructed by Sajid Javid and their goal is to try and look at how the legislation could be far more effective if certain measures were taken. Some of the categories that are under this right now include race, religion, sexual orientation and even disability. Of course, action or even elder abuse does estimate that there are around one million people who are subject to abuse every single year and this is a shocking statistic to say the least. Of course, if you work in homecare or even in private nursing then you will understand this more than anyone. There are a number of convictions that happen even to this day and when someone is found to be guilty, they are usually able to escape through various loopholes. On top of this, they are also given sentences that are flimsy as well.

Action really does need to be taken regarding the status of social care workers. Employees need to see the sector as a very attractive career that has been paid adequately. This is one of the recommendations that have been made by the Welsh politicians and this is after they expressed concern over how fragile the independent care sector is. The report essentially says that the cost for caring for an ageing population is hard work and the work needs to be absolutely on par. Those who work in homecare jobs and even private nursing jobs will know this more than anyone.

A carer for three disabled children has come out to say that she is sick and tired of people telling to act like a saint. She has come out to say that she wants to have a drink with her friends and she also wants to relax a bit as well. She has even stated that if one child is in an SEN meeting, the other one is having a complete meltdown. The children that she looks after are absolutely relentless and they are also continually having drawn out hospital visits as well. The eldest has Asperger syndrome and the 13 year old that she has is blind with autism as well. The youngest is registered blind with Aspie as well and she is continually saying that she can’t pretend that it is easy.
