Poor Health in the Northern Powerhouse is Depriving the Nation

Poor health in the north really is having a major impact on the productivity of the area. This is according to a report that was done from the six universities. The NHSA study has stated that they are doing everything they can to try and create additional funding for the northern economy and that they have also found deep-rooted inequalities in health as well. The Health for Wealth report has stated that the relationship between the healthcare industry and the powerhouse needs to improve and that this will also help to improve regional growth as well.

They found that those who did have ill health in the north were 38% more likely to lose their job when compared to someone in the other areas of England. If they did happen to return to work then their wages would be 66% lower as well. The NHSA argued that there has also been a small decrease in the rest of the UK and that if something is done then this could be reversed. Something needs to be done to try and reduce the GVA gap and this is especially the case around England in general. The lead author is known as Clare Bambra and she has stated that the connection between both productivity and high rates of ill health are staggering to say the least and that this is actually going to benefit the whole of the UK economy. The report also went on to say that this is not acceptable, and that those who work in homecare and even in private nursing are going to be feeling the hit. Either way, if something is not done soon then this could lead to major issues in the future. There may still be enough time to stop this from happening yet.
