The EHRC have published their report which challenges the adult social care decisions that have taken place in England and Wales. They launched in 2021 and the inquiry surveyed 153 local authorities. They also spoke to 322 adults who had access to social care. If you work in homecare or in private nursing, then you will know what a positive movement this is. If you run a service that offers bespoke care packages or mental health support to social workers then this is also very beneficial. The EHRC have found that social care users and carers now have the ability to challenge decisions as being confusing and that they have been presented with complex information that makes it even harder for them to get the result they are looking for. They are always having to deal with negative information and this is not good to say the least. When social care happens to work well, it can give a huge difference and it helps people to live their lives as they want. That being said, when you look at the social care system in England, you will see that it is struggling quite a lot and people have to make sure that their needs are being balanced against the tight budget. Even though local authorities are now facing huge pressures, they have to do what they can to protect people’s rights when they make decisions regarding care. This is the only way to make sure that needs are being met but at the end of the day it doesn’t look like this is happening as it should. Only time will tell if things change for the better here but right now it would appear that adult social care is struggling.

Currently it would seem that there is a shortfall in England’s homecare funding. If you work in the sector of private nursing or if you any kind of bespoke care packages you’ll know how dire this is. It is going to impact those who work in mental health as well as those who work as social workers as well. The government have completed an exercise which helps them to look into the true cost of care in general and right now the findings ae based on the data from last year. They do not even take into account inflation and this is obviously making things way worse. The elderly as well as the most vulnerable patients in the UK are now at risk and they are also being impacted by local councils. The shortfall when it comes to homecare is really evident right now and in reality care providers are being paid way less than they should be.

This comes as the UK suffers its worst possible staffing crisis. The care workforce is shrinking for the first time and this happened last year. Now it would seem that care providers are finding it hard to pay enough so that they can compete with various supermarkets as well as fast food restaurants. This is a direct impact of underfunding so this just goes to show how much things have to change. Martin Green has said that the evidence is now clearer than ever and the care sector is now on its knees. Over the next two years, the government intend to inject a lot of money into social care but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be enough. Who knows what the future holds, but right now things are not looking good for the industry and it all comes down to funding.

If you know that you work in private nursing, homecare or if you offer bespoke care packages then you will know that the disruption of care services is going to have a huge impact on things as we know it. It is going to affect social workers as well as those who experience mental health difficulties and more. Closure of support services is going to affect those who are vulnerable the most. Right now it would seem that staff who work in Sheffield Care register are about to lose their job after the announcement that has been made. UNISON have said time and time again that the staff are yet to explain the reason for the closure that has been planned. A council report has ben looking into the service and they have also increased the general take-up of these screenings. A third of those who have learning disabilities during the NHS England Trial were impacted and this is not good to say the least. The report has suggested that the people who help the register have since been able to access the health services they need, but the sad reality is that they wouldn’t have known about them otherwise. Julie Marsland who is the assistant branch secretary has said that it is not yet clear what the rationale is but at the end of the day, helping people is a priority and more has to be done to try and make sure that people are getting the general support that they need. Of course, the disability service is now closing and this is going to have a monumental impact on people across the UK and already the negative impacts are starting to show. Keep up with this story if you want to learn more.
