Equality and Human Rights Commissions have Challenged Adult Social Care

The EHRC have published their report which challenges the adult social care decisions that have taken place in England and Wales. They launched in 2021 and the inquiry surveyed 153 local authorities. They also spoke to 322 adults who had access to social care. If you work in homecare or in private nursing, then you will know what a positive movement this is. If you run a service that offers bespoke care packages or mental health support to social workers then this is also very beneficial. The EHRC have found that social care users and carers now have the ability to challenge decisions as being confusing and that they have been presented with complex information that makes it even harder for them to get the result they are looking for. They are always having to deal with negative information and this is not good to say the least. When social care happens to work well, it can give a huge difference and it helps people to live their lives as they want. That being said, when you look at the social care system in England, you will see that it is struggling quite a lot and people have to make sure that their needs are being balanced against the tight budget. Even though local authorities are now facing huge pressures, they have to do what they can to protect people’s rights when they make decisions regarding care. This is the only way to make sure that needs are being met but at the end of the day it doesn’t look like this is happening as it should. Only time will tell if things change for the better here but right now it would appear that adult social care is struggling.
