Those who work in homecare or even homecare nursing will know how demanding the job can be. After all, even if you work as a private carer you will soon see that the job can take up way more hours of your time and you won’t always get paid for these hours either. Carers Wales found out that half of those who were surveyed had given up their jobs to try and look after other people or even their own family. Leanne Brookes chooses to care for her mother, Hilary. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease just over 5 years ago. She does everything she can to keep her comfortable and she does have the help of her two sisters as well.
The problem is that even with this support, it is very difficult to know when someone is getting enough care and even they don’t know if they are doing enough. The problem is that the carer industry is stretched enough and with so many people needing to quit their jobs to look after their own family, this just goes to show that not enough is being done to try and give people the support that they need.
