Social Care is on its Knees and the Government Needs to Act Now

The government really does need to announce a credible solution that is going to address the long-term underfunding that is happening in adult social care right now. A green paper from the Department of Health is expected to land in summer. Those who work in homecare and even private nursing will understand what a vital decision this is.

The PAC has found some very worrying evidence that is being prioritised to those who need more support. This could become very costly and it could also have very long-term effects if patients are hospitalised. This is especially the case for those who have had a hip operation or even a bad fall. They could go on to develop way more serious infections and even diseases as well. The main reason for this is because they are no longer looking after their health. Age UK has warned that 12 million older people in the UK have social care needs that are unmet. Of course, the British Medical Association have stated that this is astonishing, and the government has no plan in place yet. They have also added that underfunding and even social care is contributing to the crisis as well. The underfunding of social care in general is directly contributing to the crisis that is happening in the healthcare industry right now. With winter coming soon as well, it is now more important than ever for things like this to be dealt with.

The Nuffield Trust health policy also has their very own think tank. The Nuffield Trust health policy is designed for the UK to try and implement their own dedicated social care tax that is happening right now in Japan. Of course, only time will tell if this is the case.
