Nursing Direct is currently recruiting dedicated Band 4 Paediatric Complex Care Support Workers to provide high-quality support to children and young people with complex healthcare needs in the Cranleigh area.


This role involves supporting a child within their home environment, delivering person-centred care throughout the night while promoting their safety, comfort, wellbeing, and quality of life. The successful candidate will have experience supporting children with complex care needs and be confident in recognising and responding to seizure activity.


Key Responsibilities

As a Band 4 Paediatric Complex Care Support Worker, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care to children and young people with complex healthcare needs

  • Provide continuous support and monitoring during night shifts

  • Support the child with personal care and overnight routines as required

  • Monitor the child's condition and respond appropriately to any changes in their health or wellbeing

  • Recognise, monitor, and respond to seizure activity in accordance with care plans and clinical guidance

  • Maintain accurate records of observations, interventions, and overnight care provided

  • Assist with medication administration in line with training, competency, and care plans

  • Support with feeding and hydration requirements where required

  • Follow individual care plans, clinical protocols, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures

  • Communicate effectively with parents, families, nurses, case managers, and the wider multidisciplinary team

  • Promote the child's dignity, privacy, safety, and wellbeing at all times


Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Previous experience working as a Complex Care Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, Carer, or Support Worker within a paediatric setting

  • Experience supporting children and young people with complex healthcare needs

  • Experience supporting children with seizure disorders or epilepsy

  • Previous experience providing overnight or waking night care

  • Experience providing personal care

  • A good understanding of safeguarding children and promoting their welfare

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A caring, patient, and compassionate approach

  • The ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations

  • The ability to work independently within a family home environment

  • A flexible and reliable attitude

  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with complex needs


Desirable Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience would be advantageous:

  • Community-based paediatric complex care experience

  • Experience with epilepsy management and seizure monitoring

  • PEG feeding experience

  • Medication administration experience

  • Experience supporting children with neurological or developmental conditions

  • Knowledge of person-centred care and family-centred support approaches
