Here’s Why Resilience Training Should be Given to Any Healthcare Undergraduate

As a nurse, you are expected to be able to deal with and handle a huge amount of trauma. You are expected to live with this on a day to day basis and you are also expected to just get on with your job as well. For a lot of people, this is not possible at all and they leave for other jobs that are not as demanding. For some people, they choose to stay on but that being said, they are just too stressed and as a result, they become disengaged. This can lead to a lot of unhappiness in the workplace and it can also make it much more difficult for them to feel happy with the decisions that they are making. This is something that you need to take into account when you work in private nursing or even in homecare.

It’s important to know that resilience training could help to significantly reduce the amount of traumatic experiences that people go through. It could also be taught to undergraduates as well. This training should be provided to all of those who work in healthcare and it should be part of their training. The overall risk of going on sick leave because you are far too stressed is way higher these days when compared to the risk of leaving because of a manual handling accident. Things really do need to change if you want to recruit and even retain nurses. This concept applies to social workers, doctors and other healthcare professionals. The health, defence, police and even social care industries all have staff who are experiencing shortages and it is scary to see that these shortages could be made even worse by people leaving due to stress.
