Staff members at the hospitals had not been trained and on top of this, they did not have the resources required to try and care for the children who had mental health issues and learning disabilities. The children’s departments included the QEQM and WHH and these were both rated as being inadequate. Acheson has stated that the CQC has found a strong and caring workforce, but they are being severely overstretched and they are not reporting the right data to the board. This is ultimately leading to them appearing safer or more able to handle situations than they actually are. Now this information has been found out, it really is only a matter of time before changes are made but this can only be a good thing when you look at the standard of care that has been provided so far.
With so many stresses going on with the NHS, it’s no surprise that this is happening.
