Nurses who Treat Lung Cancer Patients Want to Quit More Since Covid-19

The number of nurses who treat lung cancer in the UK are now expressing their intentions to quit even more. This has skyrocketed over the course of the current pandemic. A lot of this comes down to the fact that many have been actively deployed away from the roles that they have right now. The findings have been outlined in a brand-new report and it has been outlined in the UK Lung Cancer Coalition and they are looking at the general impact of the crisis on both patients and staff.

Lung cancer patients and nurse specialists are all playing a pivotal role in guiding many patients through the pathway of having lung cancer. It’s been revealed that well over 55% of lung cancer teams lost at least one of their staff members during the coronavirus pandemic. It could be because they were not able to work because of the virus or because they faced things like redeployment. Over the course of the pandemic, there had been what looks like a steep increase in the amount of people who intend to leave. It rose from 16% to 60% in total.

The report has stated that this trend is going to indicate the need for even more support for a workforce that is stretched right now. Jackie Fenemore is a lung cancer nurse and she is also the chair of Lung Cancer Nursing UK has stated that lung cancer nurses in particular have been very much impacted by the virus and that more needs to be done to try and give them the support that they need. The staff are now under more pressure than ever and it would seem that they are struggling to try and keep up with the demand for their services.
