If you want to support the mental health of those who you serve in homecare or if you work in private nursing and often work with social workers who offer bespoke care packages then you may be interested to know about some new research. Research has found that if you do not wear a hearing aid then you could be putting yourself at higher risk of dementia. This study is a breakthrough to say the least and it has found that hearing loss happens to a lot of people. That being said, if you avoid using a hearing aid then this could put you at a higher risk of developing dementia. If you do not wear a hearing aid when you need to then you could be 42% more likely to develop dementia when compared to those who have a normal level of hearing. There was no increased risk when you look at the people who do use hearing aids, however. The results that stem from this did prompt a lot of discussion about how loss of hearing can lead to isolation from others. It is also linked to things like cognitive decline as well. These are just some of the many issues that those who have dementia face. If you work in homecare then this may be interesting to you, as it is so important that people are given the support that they need when it comes to their hearing. If you can do your bit to make sure that people get the hearing aid support they need when they need it, then you could actually be doing your bit to stop people from developing dementia as well which is truly so important as it can cut years off your life.
