This calls for important changes to be made to try and support unpaid carers. It is a known fact that there are so many people who work in homecare jobs and even carer jobs who often go without pay for their work. In fact, over 3 million people are trying to juggle a paid job while also caring for someone who is disabled or even old. Too often we see that there is a negative impact on their health and people have even had to give up work in the past as well and this just is not right.
Supporting carers who are having to juggle work and care has a strong impact on the economy. The UK economy really does need people to try and continue working for longer and it also increases the likelihood of people having to care for someone while they are working. The committee recommends that both of these things are deliverable and that there seems to be a very strong growing expectation against the public. The government really does need to do more to try and support those who need it the most and even carers as well.
Carers UK have argued for quite some time that they need to have the right to take time off work and get paid for it. The Committee have really called upon the government to try and introduce this, and there are a lot of people who are trying to do everything they can to make this happen. Only time will tell if there is going to be anything done about this, but it’s safe to say that the times are changing.
