Researchers from Sheffield, and even Hull, are being asked to give their views on end-of-life care. They are being asked to see if they will interview care workers as well as finding out if anything can be done to help those who may have an illness. They are approaching people to find out if they could give more support to those who really need it. They are also targeting those who work in the Bromley area as well to see if more can be done to give support. The work is intended to support the general development and training for those who work in the sector but they are also looking to support homecare social workers, bespoke care package offerings and those who work in private nursing and mental health. The work is full intended to support the general development of training and it is also designed to offer support materials for the workforce as well. Even though workers are requesting that they work within the Hull area, it is important to know that they are also looking for those who work in the Bromley area, and the Bradford area. The team are going to be very interested to hear from those who work in social care as they are looking to provide as much support as possible to those who need it.
Of course, it is very interesting to see how the latest developments have happened because at the end of the day, it looks like those who work in homecare have been trying to give their opinion for quite some time. If you want to find out more about homecare or how the people who work in the sector can benefit from this then make sure that you follow the story as there are going to be more advancements.
If you mention cyber security to the manager of a very small homecare business then there is a chance that they will either turn pale or glaze over. It is certainly a topic that will disengage or terrify people in the sector. It’s not one that you can really ignore though. This is especially the case with smaller homecare services as they are usually far more vulnerable than people might realise. If you work in private nursing, offer bespoke care packages or are part of the homecare business then you will know how much of an impact this can have on social workers and their mental health.
The nature of homecare is that care workers are completely dependent on tech as it helps them to access and then share information. At the end of the day, digital systems do have massive benefits and they help to give staff rapid access to information. From digital records to staff rostering and more. That being said, those systems have to be secure, and people have to know how to use them safely. Of course, it’s important to remember that some care services do in fact permit their staff to use their own phones for work. It may be that they are sharing pictures of someone’s wound or that they are receiving a text about a client. They may also be having a change to their shift. Data such as this is highly sensitive at the end of the day, and as it’s on someone’s phone, there is a chance that it could be shared from an internet connection that is not secure. More has to be done, and that is why homecare services are being asked to share the experiences they are having so that they can stay safer.
If you work in homecare or in the sector of private nursing, then you may be interested to know that home care providers and social workers who offer bespoke care packages are now having to hand back their contracts. This is impacting the mental health of those who work in the sector, and it just goes to show that this isn’t right at all. Nick Evans has gone on to explain that the fees are being paid by the council and that they were so low and even unsustainable that the annual loss would be too great if they were to continue. Evan has come out to say that the charity was also forced to subside the council for the general care that they had commissioned. Managers went as far as to demand a pay rise of over 13.1% and they asked for this from Wrexham Council. They wanted to be able to meet the 3% pay rise that staff wanted. That being said, the increase that they wanted was not granted. They said that they were not able to uplift with Wrexham Council and that they would have to make some changes in order to give people the support that they were looking for. They have been using a lot of their own resources to top salaries and they have also gone very much beyond their payments. Reserves will run out of things continue though and this is not sustainable over the long run. That is why action has to be taken now, to ensure that people are given the help that they need, to stay healthy. Of course, if you have been affected by this, then you may want to speak with others within the sector, as you will not be alone here.
If you work in private nursing, homecare, mental health or with social workers who happen to offer bespoke care packages then you will know how important it is to meet the current demands. At the end of the day, the total demand for care has gone up over time and this is largely due to the aging population. Now it looks like there are over 950,000 people in the UK who are receiving domiciliary care. In order to try and meet this need, it looks like the number of registrations who are with the CQC have increased. When you look at the first quarter of the year 2023, it’s not hard to see that a ton of new providers have now registered and that this is now an increase of over 32%. With the number of providers who are working in the market currently, it is safe to say that a lot of business success will come down to the clients who are providing care and the circle that connects care. Tech can support the objectives through improving communication as well as operational efficiency. The increased demand for care means that carers and agencies will have to do more to try and meet the homecare need. It looks like there is also a lot of demand for the aging population and that people are now experiencing more long-term disabilities. They need help with daily duties and at the end of the day, it doesn’t look like they are being given it. Only time will tell what the future holds but right now homecare demands are not being met and the only way this is going to change is if more is done to give support to those who need it the most. This can only happen through more staffing.
