COMMUNITY CARE WORKER

Description

Nursing Direct are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Community Care Worker to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a young adult male living independently in his own home..

He requires tailored support due to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), sensory processing difficulties, attachment disorder, and associated behaviours of concern.

This is a highly rewarding but also challenging role, requiring patience, resilience, and a consistent, person-centred approach. The right candidate will play a vital part in helping him live safely, develop life skills, and engage in meaningful activities within the community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide daily support with personal care, including dressing, hygiene, and appearance.
  • Supervise and support with meal preparation, ensuring safe practice.
  • Assist with shopping, budgeting, and managing finances.
  • Provide guidance with household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Administer and/or prompt prescribed medication.
  • Support with accessing the community, leisure, and recreational activities, encouraging independence and social skills.
  • Promote healthy routines, decision-making, and life skills.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals and the wider support team to ensure consistent care.
  • Apply de-escalation strategies when required and follow agreed support plans.

Essential requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting young people/adults with ASD and ADHD.
  • Experience working with individuals who present with behaviours of concern.
  • Ability to provide patient, empathetic, and consistent support.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Clear Enhanced DBS check.
  • Adult CPR/BLS certification.
  • SOVA / SOCA training (or willingness to complete).
  • PMVA (Prevention & Management of Violence and Aggression) training (or willingness to complete).

Desirable skills & experience:

  • Experience supporting individuals with attachment disorder and/or obsessive behaviours.
  • Understanding of sensory processing difficulties.
  • Ability to promote independence while maintaining safety.
  • Creative, proactive approach to engagement in community activities.

Nursing Direct is a UK-based agency. We are only able to consider candidates currently living in the UK with valid Right to Work. We do not offer visa sponsorship and cannot accept applicants on 20-hour Student or Skilled Worker VISAs.
