Woman with Dementia Wants to Run London Marathon

A 62 year old woman who has early on-set dementia has stated that she is on a mission to try and challenge the way that people see the condition that she has. She believes that the best way for her to do this would be for her to run the London Marathon. If you work in carer jobs or homecare jobs

then you will understand how horrible dementia can be and you will also understand how much of an impact it can have on the lives of those who live with them. Sue Strachan is known as Strawny and she was diagnosed with vascular dementia a couple of years ago.

The sales representative was advised by doctors to try and take up running and this is all to help her manage her condition. She believes that by attempting to run the marathon, she could try and raise some money to help dementia research. So far she has raised £3,000 and she is going to donate all of this. The marathon plans all came from humble beginnings. She has stated that she did the 5K run and she started walking for a minute before she ran for a minute. She gradually built this up until she could run for thirty minutes. She wanted to be able to run a marathon before she reached the age of 60 and she did this in October. She said that when she completed it, she thought that she would never have the chance to do something like this again, but now she has joined up to the London marathon and this is really going to help her to make the most out of her condition. She is an inspiration to us all and there is no telling how much more she could achieve over the next few years.
