There is No Place for Racism for Healthcare

There’s absolutely no place for racism in things like homecare and even private nursing. The midwifery council has chosen to join forces with various other regulators. They want to try and remind health and social care workers of their duties and they also want to show how important it is to try and protect staff and even patients against racism. This is all being done in partnership with the Health Observatory and the NHS Race. The General Medical Council and of course, the Care Quality Commission have chosen to release an open statement and this is going to be a subject matter for a lot of employers. The four organisations have all chosen to call on healthcare leaders and they have also tried to make sure that all of their policies and their leaders are fair and inclusive. A lot of this is being done in-line with the Equality Act. The move really does come at a time where nursing is hitting the headlines. It’s approaching the year anniversary of George Floyd, who was murdered in the US.

The NMC has stated that they have their own regulator and that they want to try and review the case of a nurse who has been struck off the register. They were done so because they chose to make very racist comments against one of their colleagues. The NMC have also carried out an investigation regarding a racist email that was sent by a practice nurse as well. The regulator right now is carrying out a review and they are all looking into the differences and the experience outcomes that are going to try and help people who are on the register. They are also going to try and give people support when they might need it the most.
