There are No Plans to Reintroduce Paid Placements for those who Work in Wales and Scotland

Leaders who work in Scotland and Wales have stated that they are not going to be asking those who are in their final year as a nurse to come back to clinical placements. We are at a very crucial stage in the coronavirus pandemic and it would seem that those who work in homecare or even in private nursing know this first-hand. This situation is being kept under a very close review by the devolved governments in various countries. The top priority for people right now is to make sure that the final year students can graduate. They want to ensure that students are able to retain their supernumerary status if possible.

It would seem that the Nursing and the Midwifery Council have announced that they are going to be introducing the standards so that they can allow any final year students the chance to undertake a clinical placement. This is going to account for up to 100% of their programme given the spike in COVID cases. The NMC have stated that these standards have been available to use in every UK country but they are not mandatory to the region, institution, student and country. This comes after a lot of different processes have been implemented and this saw the second and third year students invited to various paid placements all across the UK.

Wales and even Scotland have all decided that their final year students will carry on as normal and they are not going to be an option of having a paid placement. In England, they have confirmed that they are in fact going to be reintroducing paid placements for student nurses. This is welcomed by some, but who knows what the future holds for the industry.
