The report that has been issued has stated that 40% of claims are now happening because of delays in diagnosis. It has said that a £700m investment may be needed in order to cut this waiting list back down. The NHS have a target and they want to achieve this by the end of the month. Even so, there are 1.36 million cases more than there were last March.
The NAO have recommended that the NHS need to carry out a very large review so that they can understand the waiting times that patients are going to be experiencing. There is a rising demand for care and there are also capacity restraints as well. It’s incredibly hard to see how the NHS are going to be able to turn this around. A significant investment will be required, and they are also going to need some additional staffing. Earlier on in the month, the NHS have chosen to unveil their plans to try and replace their key waiting targets and that there are now a ton of new rapid care measures being put into place. Only time will tell if this is going to be the case.
