International Nurses are Exempt from the Surcharge for Immigration

The exemption to the health surcharge for professionals working overseas is now going to come into force right away. It is also going to be backdated all the way back to March 31st. The government have confirmed this and so many people are happy with the result. Ministers have offered even more details about the scheme after they have come under pressure from numerous unions. It came right after the Prime Minister’s pledge to scrap the fee for social care professionals and for health professionals too. This would of course, also apply to those who work in private nursing and in homecare.

The Government

Of course, since then, it looks like the government have faced tons of requests to see if they can get more information about how the exemption is going to work and also the timescale for this. This includes the Royal College of Nursing. The home secretary has confirmed that health and even care staff are now going to be exempt from this charge permanently, and that the refunds are going to be offered to those who have paid the fee as part of their Tier 2 visa. They have stated that going forward, the exemption is going to be applied automatically and that it is going to be part of the Health and Care Visa. This is going to come into play in 2021 and it is going to be put under the Immigration System for Brexit. Those who are eligible will benefit from the reduced fee for visa applications. This is going to give them the chance to fast-track anything they need in as little as three weeks. This is going to be very interesting to say the least and it looks like it’s going to have a huge impact on the industry overall.
