Amnesty International have Raised Concerns over UK Nurse Deaths

The number of deaths for British healthcare workers during the pandemic looks to have been raised as a major concern for the Amnesty International. This is being done in a new report and it looks like things are really moving forward right now.

Russia and Healthcare Worker Deaths

Right now, it looks like Russia have the most deaths for healthcare workers. They currently have 545 deaths, but in England and Wales, they have the second highest. The amount that they have stands at 540 right now. Amnesty International have stated that the comparison is probably inaccurate because of the way that the deaths tend to be reported, and the fact that some countries are not reporting their deaths properly at all. Unlike other countries, the UK factored deaths that include social care professionals. Even so, Amnesty International are calling for an urgent inquiry to be held and that this is going to scrutinise the UK’s approach to the crisis in general.

Of course, the figures have shown that as of the 26th of June, 268 deaths have been registered amongst care workers or those who work in private nursing in the UK, and that social worker deaths have also been included. This includes those who work in homecare, so it’s important to keep that in mind if possible. It has also been reported that 100 nurses have died when coming down with Covid-19 in Wales and England. The Amnesty International report has flagged that those who come from Asian, black or minority backgrounds tend to be over-represented when you look at the deaths that are to do with health workers in the UK.

Of course, only time will tell what the future holds but right now, it looks like more needs to be done to make sure that everyone is given the support they need.
